			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco presents Noted Author Douglas Deur at ‘Ocian in View’ 2011</strong></p>
<p> On Friday November 11 at 6pm the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco will present a lecture by Dr. Douglas Deur.  Dr. Deur is an Associate Research Professor in the Portland State University Department of Anthropology, and Research Coordinator for the Pacific Northwest Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit at the University of Washington.  With a background in both the natural and social sciences, as well as a research background in ethnobiology, Dr. Deur serves as a consultant to various Native American tribes and the National Parks.</p>
<p> He has a particular interest in projects that restore species, habitats, and natural processes that are culturally significant to Native American and other human communities with enduring attachments to the lands being restored.  Dr. Duer is co-editor of <span style="text-decoration: underline">Keeping it Living</span> the first comprehensive overview of how Northwest Coast Native Americans managed the landscape and cared for the plant communities on which they depended.</p>
<p>The annual &#8216;Ocian in View&#8217; cultural program is presented November 11 and 12.  Other events include:</p>
<p> <strong>Saturday November 12 from 9am – noon </strong>join the Columbia Confluences Bus Tour. The area at the  mouth of the Columbia River has long been a place of convergence between cultures.  The Tour begins at Cape Disappointment State Park where you will join Washington State Parks Interpreter Aaron  Webster for a closer look at the Confluence Project artworks and the history they reflect. After an  initial discussion of the project from its inception to construction, join us for a &#8220;Walk Through Time&#8221; -  you&#8217;ll visit 12,000 years of history along a 1/2 mile walk. The tour will include visits to all the  installations at Cape Disappointment State Park, starting at the boat launch and concluding at Waikiki  Beach.</p>
<p>Jim Sayce, Washington State Historical Society&#8217;s manager for local projects will guide the bus tour  along the Columbia Pacific Passage stopping at Middle Village/Station Camp the newest addition to  the Lewis &amp; Clark National Historic Park.  The Tour will visit Knappton Cove Heritage Center before returning to the Museum.  The bus tour is $20 call the Museum at 360-642-3446 for reservations.</p>
<p><strong>Saturday November 12 from 4 to 7 pm</strong> the Chinook Tribe will host their Annual Salmon Dinner at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum.  The dinner will include regional seafood, salad, Indian fry bread, dessert and beverages.  Cost is $15 per person, seniors (55 and over) $13, children under 12 $5.  No reservations are required.</p>
<p><strong>Saturday November 12, 10 – 4</strong>:  &#8220;How Horriable is the Day &#8220;, an open house hosted by the Knappton Cove Heritage Center &#8220;The Columbia River&#8217;s Ellis Island&#8221;. Visitors can interact with Pacific Northwest Living Historian Interpreters, view the museum exhibits, enjoy hot cider and take a walk to the river beach.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>New Exhibit &#8211; Summer Camps on the North Beach Peninsula, opens with a reception on Friday 19th 5pm-7pm.  Light refreshments will be served.  Everyone is welcome, no charge.</p>
<p>This exhibit will include photographs, objects, stories and more from Camp Willapa, Camp Sherwood Forest, Camp Morehead, Camp Lily Del Dune (now the Dunes Bible Camp) and Hill Summer Camp.  Local author and historian Sydney Stevens will guest curate this exhibition.</p>
<p>Camping has long been a part of life at the beach.  Wonderful historic information. </p>
